Bring your Loaves and Fish to the Feet of Jesus…
Sometimes I find that God teaches me when I plan to teach my children. Can you relate?
Today started off with my kids listening to the Bible story of the five loaves and two fish. I couldn’t think of a more fitting reminder on the morning this blog was set to launch. Psalm 127 has been a steady whisper since the start of motherhood for me, and today is quite fittingly the day God whispered in my heart to launch.
Of course, this is real life and this past week has come with its own set of challenges from hard moments to healing, to a record-breaking snow storm (with the blisters on my hands from shoveling to prove it).
This morning didn’t begin perfectly, but I was reminded that sometimes we are simply called to move forward in faith and quiet the perfectionism that tries to hold us back. God doesn’t require perfection – He simply asks for our loaves and fish.
While I always strive for excellence, I’m a mom of four kids and being perfect isn’t reality. (Unless your name is Jesus, it’s not a reality for anyone.)
So today, we will begin with this post… no pretense, no polish, just real life. This is what this blog is all about.
I want to both welcome you and encourage you; you are enough, and God can work with what you have if you just offer it to him.
Likewise, I give this blog to Him today, unfinished pieces and all. Let’s see what He does with it.

Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a desolate place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns. When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick. Now when it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a desolate place, and the day is now over; send the crowds away to go into the villages and buy food for themselves.” But Jesus said, “They need not go away; you give them something to eat.” They said to him, “We have only five loaves here and two fish.” And he said, “Bring them here to me.” Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass, and taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing. Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over. And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children. Matt 14:13-21 (ESV)
Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus,
I come to you today with what I have and place it in your hands. I know it is little and far from what I wish to give you, but you have said that your strength is made perfect in my weakness. (2 Cor 12:9) I am not meant to bear the burden alone, but to give you what I have and place it in your ever capable hands. You are faithful and only ask me to surrender what I have to you.
We are meant to live and accomplish all we are called to do with you. Help me to release control and to trust you as I pursue the calling that you have on my life. My search for perfection is really a search for you. I want to walk with you side by side and follow your leading. Give me strength when false security temps and distracts. I surrender what I have to you and know that you will direct my path.
Lord, thank you for a yoke that is light, for your strength, and for your provision. I praise you and glorify you and I thank you for multiplication.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
